need opinions on what is wrong with my R?
2001 Type R 90,000 m. Just had major service done: timing belt, water pump, cam\crank seals, and every fluid changed. It's burning a large amount of oil,(i topped it off last week and today there was no oil on the dipstick) but there is not a lot of smoke and what smoke there is it's mainly black and only accelerating at WOT. There are no oil leaks. This car is a daily driver and is NOT beat on except the occasional trips to the mountains.
The car has basic bolt-ons, cam gears, and hondata s100. The hondata + tuning made absolutely no gains in hp or torque over stock, and the tuner did little to change the a/f curve (13:1 through out) , however he did set the vtec too low in my opinion at 4950. Which at 90mph i'm in vtec!! I did a compression test on my car and the numbers were 210-205-205-210. I'm going to put the stock ecu back in so I can avoid being in vtec so much, and re-do the compression test tonight and i'll post the numbers up. I'm also going to get a leakdown test done and post those results as well.
I would just like to know what anyone opinions are on this problem, suggestions on what to do/how to fix it or if i would be better off just buying a new block? I guess what i'm asking is, what are my options in fixing this problem and which would be the more cost effective one?
thanks in advance.

If the tuner made no gains with the Hondata then there is your first problem. Try someone else. a simple VAFC makes gains...
did you check you antifreeze for oil contamination?

i assume that the shop that did the water pump would have told me if there was. This service was done less than a month ago. And I took my car to the same shop today for this problem and had the oil changed and there was no mention of it today either.

210-205-205-210 is way high for leakdown. More than likely oil is passing the rings. At least thats what those numbers say. Black smoke is fuel, to much. Hondata is known for that. Find another tuner. Another possible I've seen is "washing " the piston rings, that is too much fuel going into the combustion chamber with knowwhere to go.
Find another tuner, you should get at least 10-20HP from your mods. Once the tune-up is right drive around a while to clean up the motor. Then do your leakdown test, at operateing temp. of course...

first things first, get a new tuner. that is way too rich on a lightly modified R motor.
second, it sounds like your rings are pretty worn. I had the same problem with very little smoking but burned through oil pretty quickly if I beat on the car. check your plugs and see if you have any particle buildup on the electrodes. and as rob said, check your coolant to see if any oil is floating around in there which would indicate a head gasket problem. be sure to check UNDER the cap as well as sometimes you will get some oil buildup on the cap itself.

those are numbers from the compression test
and basically what everyone is saying i got screwed on the tuning? Funny how it was tuned by the "best tuner" in the area (i dont want to give away who it is for the sake of creating drama) I guess I just made the mistake of getting it tuned during race season.
If anyone knows of a good tuner in the southeast, I'm willing to drive to get the job done right.
