too loose, you leak coolant
too tight, u crack the gasket.

 

you would have to tighten the hell out of it to crack and metal gasket

 

it happens :-p

especially over time if they're tightened unevenly...jsut add heat :-(

 

my AEBS tq specs were 21lbs

ok, let me put it this way, unless you cant feel what youre doing, then its a big deal. and you probably shouldnt be working on your car in the first place

i/m gaskets aren't metal. also, you don't want to over tighten. broken studs are a bitch to get out.

Well, me and a buddy of mine just put my rear discs on and on of the trailing arms was missing the self tapping bolt that held it to the LCA was gone. So we improvised and put a nut on there with self-locking washers. I asked if we were gonna torque everything down and he said, "naw, hand tight (torque) will be fine."

Yesterday I went to torque all my suspension down because I'm going to the track in a few weeks, and that bolt along with many others on the front and rear suspension were much more loose than the torque specs they were supposed to be at.

From now on I'll be torqueing anything and everything down when I work on the car.
