Default Throttle cable stretch?

Went to an SCCA AX this past Sunday, and I started noticing after my first run that my pedal had a lot of slack in it. Popped the hood and noticed my throttle cable on my "stock" '02 Honda Accord has a ton of slack in it. Adjusting the cable nut will not remove the slack (never has been adjusted before), because it does not have that much room to pull the cable back. Right now I have to push the gas pedal halfway to the floor before it actually starts to engage the throttle.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what's the problem, because I'm looking at the pedal arm in the footwell and can't seem to find anything loose..

Since the car is still under warranty, and the dealer is 3/4 mile down the street from my job back home, I guess I'll have them check it out when I get back to Houston this Friday.

Any idears? Can the cable actually stretch?

Wee! And that makes the very first reliability "issue" by Accord has had.

All the other stuff I've gone thru with my suspension had to do with my hitting a curb really hard and replacing bent stuff one at a time...

EDIT: Woohoo! Only $10:

are you sure it didn't just come loose from the pedal, the wheel, or some bracket that holds it in place?

That's what I've originally thought. I will be able to properly inspect it this Wednesday...

Then it really would not work at all if it can loose from the pedal, bracket or wheel. They stretch looks like it's time to replace it.

The cable is just fine. There is a small rubber "bushing" that sits on the cable, between the pedal arm, and the metal cable stopper. It had a split down the side, so the stopper goes thru, reaches the pedal arm and creates extra slack. I just wrapped the rubber with some electrical tape and it's all fixed...

EDIT: BTW I got some really good gas mileage when that pedal had all that slack for an entire week
