Default Insurance question! Share your hit and run stories / outcomes

Well a while back (in spring) somone slammed into my car and drove away. Had the police come and they said he was most likely drinking (i live near a big party town during the summer) and that they put a report out for him but he was most likeyl a vacationer and got away. Well i got the police report and it says it was clearly a hit and run.

I was going to wait and save up money to have the body repaired but after i saved some money i recently found that repairing the car was gonig to be very costly if i wanted to do it at the right place.

Here is where my question comes into hand. If i were to go thorugh insurance i would pay my deductable and then i'm guessing my premium would sky rocket.

Can anyone help me out with advice. Anyone else have a similar story? Please tell!!!

same kind of thing happened to me but i found the bastard took some pictures and billed him a grand and i got it but anyway your premiums shouldn't go up because its not your fault and the report states that it is a hit and run

Uh.......I got hit. Except I pulled over and so did he, he rearended me. We exchanged info and I didnt think much of it since his car took most of the damage, and I went to the police station down the street after the info swap to report it, cause it was a bad intersection and I didnt want to block it up any longer than was necessary.

Processed everything, turned out he gave me a bunch of BS info, luckily we took his plates and they had all his info, he was driving on an expired registration and w/o insurance. Basically they told me my insurance would cover me, and then they'd go after him to recoupe their $$$. This was in some old POS I had, they appraised the scratches on my bumper and the broken lower clips at like $1200, I took the money, put it in my bank and lived with a few scratches.

a buddy of muddy got his srt-4 side swiped about a week ago. he chased the bitch down until he got her plates and then backed off. he filed a report and cops say until she speaks to them or comes forward they cant convict her.(complete BS if you ask me...).
we've taken it upon ourselves to find out who she is and where the bitch lives(my cousin is dating a cop). I'll let you know how it goes.

the tech would be the damage of my car and if it would be worth it to fix myself or go thorugh insurance and all. I dunno. just felt like it was a "eg + civic / del sol" board kinda thing.

i actually work for an insurance company. insurance is different in all states. depends on what kind of coverage you have on your car. most states will not cover a hit and run. this being because without having proof (the other car) it is hard to prove that you were actually hit, and not fraud. it would be a lot cheaper going through insuranc. all you would have to pay is your collision deductible, which in general most people have $500 deductibles. this will not effect your insurance rates. if you do not have collision then you would be **** out of luck.

Me and my fiance was coming home on Thanksgiving of 03 and about a quarter mile from our house some dipship came around a curve and t-boned us in her side(she was driving). Tore out the rearend and broke the tranny of an Xterra he hit us so hard. I heard the little bastard cranking his car trying to start it so I knew he was running. Tore his Baretta all to hell. I got his tag # and they caught him about 30 minutes later in the projects near where he hit us. My girls father came to get us and we heard them come over the police radio and say that they got him. Her father drove us up to where they caught him and my girl jumped out of the car and about took his head off. It was great. He was saying it wasn't him and he was giving a false name. The ran him in thier system and printed a picture of him with his info and found that he had warrants from another state for car theft and other crap. Little Bastard......

Last week i was down at avenue p (racing spot) and my friend was racing his acura ls against an accord some how the accord lost control of the car and hit him in the back left fender real bad. His car was a complete loss so the guy got out of the car and said he would be back and left his car there. He never came back....so we took his license plate and towed my friends car in the front of his house and put the accords license plate on the floor next to it. Basically we made it look as if it was a hit and run. So the insurance went and inspected the car and gave him about 6500 for it
