Default With the airbox off

My friend loves the grunt of the car with the airbox off even tho I tried convincing him that the power would be reduced with it off.

However this assumption is 50% wrong. If you're gonna take the car out on a short rip or drag, it is better with the airbox off (in my experience atleast). The car will pull better until the engine bay becomes very hot and then the hot air starts to take effect.

But! In my experience the car still got to 140mph faster than it does with the airbox on. I think this is because there is insufficient air coming in at high speeds with the box is on and in top end scenarios HOT AIR IS BETTER THAN NO AIR.

On a side note, my friends Mitsubishi Evo 8 got 5 more BHP on the dyno with the air box off but this might be irrelavent since the bonnet is lifted up on a dyno run and so the engine bays hot air is disperesed better.

BTW I have a UK ITR, they are slighlty less powerfull than US ITRs.

You don't have to take aff the box to make it breath better. Just remove the resonator below it and attach a piece of hose to draw cold air.

EuroITRs are not less poweful than US ITRs. The HP is measured differently. The US ITR has 195 HP SAE and the Euro ITR has 190 HP ECE. The HP is measured differently.

I seriously doubt that 140 is the average.

If I had a commute everyday where I could go 140mph, then the ITR would not be the car of my choice due to the short gearing and lack of a 6th gear.

Go to Germany and see for yourself. Especially on the highway to the Ring on a quiet sunny Sunday morning. I was driving 150 mph to the Ring and was overtaken by Porsches, BMWs, Mercs, etc.

Must be nice not having a "speed limit" in some parts of your country.
Hmmm ... new M5 or new Corvette Z06 ...

I could swear couple years ago there were dyno sheets floating around that showed the ITR made LESS power when the resonator was bypassed and homemade duct was used.

If there is no restriction on the autobahn ppl go as fast as they can.
So you better drive faster than 160mph if you dont want to pay attention to your rear fiew mirror.
