brakes on 90" civic hatch
hi, im wanting to buy a civic hatch from some guy i know and he said the brakes were kind messed up.but he doesnt know whats wrong.he said that when you wanna stop you have to pump the the brake 2 times and on the third times it will start stopping.does anyone know what might be wrong with it? if so let me know asap so i can pick it up from him before anyone else does>thanks
well that can happen anywhere brake fluid goes
if you have a leak itll suck air back in and youll end up with that spongy pedal
check master cyl all flexible hoses and wheel cylinders then start looking for cracked fittings on the steel lines im betting wheel cylinders if you dont see anything of a visible leak
they went on mine and i had the same problems

what went on youres? and do you think whatevers wrong will be fixable without alot of money and will it be easy.cause im scared to buy the car cause i dont know whats wrong with the brakes
It may be as simple as the rear brakes need adjustment really badly. When you set the parking brake how many clicks does it come up. if it comes up a long way and the parking brake does not grab well then it may be as simple as adjusting the play out of the rear brakes. See any shop manual and it tells how to adjust them correctly.
If the parking brake is tight, only a few clicks till it sets, then my money is on master cylinder. Air does not "just get in there". It must be drawn in from the outside of this closed system. When you pump up the brakes does it stay up or does it slowly drop under your foot. If it does that it is definitely the master cylinder.
