You cannot just change the mirror glass without wire splicing. I had to do my passenger side this past fall. The Honda shop manul shows the breakdown in such a way that makes you think you can do it, but I never figured it out. Replacing the whole deal is easier anyway, just make sure that if your car is a coupe you get a replacement off a coupe etc. They are different.
ITS A 98 FOUR DOOR (NON FOLDING MIRRORS
) WELL I NEED JUST THE HOUSING...THE MIRROR AND THE ACTUATOR ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. THERS THAT LITTLE ARM THAT HOLDS THE ACTUATOR IN PLACE AND THE HOUSING, I DUNNO IF THAT PIECE COMES WITH THE HOUSING, OR I CAN BUY IT SEPARATELY...YOU GUYS KNOW? THANK YOU

You will have to replace the whole assy. If you take off the little trim panel on the inside by the mirror you'll see the mounting screws/bolts. take them out and un-plug the harness. You may have to take you door panel off to get to the harness. Then just slap the new one on. Simple as that. If you want for the time being you can just cut those wires that are holding the mirror assy on. The new mirror will come with those wires.
so u mean i have to buy the actuator too? the whole set? or can i just get the housing...i am tryin to go cheap as possible this came at a bad time
I've replaced both my driver's and passenger side mirrors on my '99. Same thing, just mine fold (and probably cost more).
The steps are in the Haynes manual, if you don't have one I highly recommend picking one up, only $13 or $14 or so from Autozone, Pepboys, etc.
What exactly are you wanting to do? Do you just want to take the old mirror off, or are you actually wanting to replace it? If you are just wanting to take it off, clip the wires and it's off. Before doing that you could try something like superglue, I guess, and see if it'll hold.
If you want to replace it, you'll start by popping off the triangular piece on the inside of your door, above the door panel (behind where the mirror is). It's held in by three clips, I believe. Once that is off you'll see three or four bolts which actually hold the mirror onto the side of the car. Undo the bolts and the mirror is free, except for the wiring.
The wiring is connected with a clip behind the door panel. So, you've got to take that off if you are putting on a new side mirror and want to connect it.
The list price for a mirror for a '99 (the bendable one) is right at $200, the one for the '98 has to be a little cheaper. You might check ebay or do some google searches for a place to find them cheaper.

I dont think honda sell the mirror by itself(unlike dodge), the whole assembly with the actuator painted would cost around 120 from honda(just installed one for my friend's civic-another victim of hit and run)
um..unpainted motorized mirror with housing runs 75shipped(oem like)

and for installation:
1)crank down the window(you would want to do that if you have tinted window because you might pull the trim too hard and scratch your tint film) and you'll have more room.
2)pull the triangle plastic trim upward and toward yourself, it should pop relatively easy.
3) there's total of 3+1nuts that you need to remove, notice your mirror will not fall off every if all the nuts are remover, squeeze the white plastic anchor to release the mirror.
Now your mirror is free, pull the harness and reinstall your new mirror in the same exact fashion.

I doubt that it'd be worth it to you, but for $300 or $350 you could put on the mirrors from a '99.
Because they are bendable, people will think that you have a '99 and not a '98 (they will know it's not an '00 because you won't have the tether strap holders in the back dash). OK, most people wouldn't catch these subtle differences, but it's still there if you want it.
I plan on buying a new Odyssey in a year or so (keeping my Accord as a commuter car), one of the things I was tossing around was buying an LX and then buying colored side mirrors and slapping on an EX label onto the back, and I think a roofrack is the other difference. Of course it would still be an LX, but people would think that it was an EX.
