i bought an red center tail light for my std. ,and i was wondering how do u remove the old sticker that says civic since its all ready pealing off, just wondering what chemicals would take it off that i could get at and store, i used to detail but i forgot the name of this stuff that would remove stickers from plastics with out ruining it
thanks for any help
thanks for any help
use a heat gun or a hair dryer.. I used a razor blade and went slowly one letter at a time. If you get the sticker hot enough, it should just peel off.. once you get the sticker off, use 'goof off' or some type of cleaner (not thinner) to take off teh glue. Now, you'll see that there is now an outline of where the sticker used to be..now use your detailing skills, and start polishing.. if after polishing, you can still see the 'Civic' badging.. scuff the whole thing, with a scotch pad, clean it, and throw on some clear coat.. DONE!

Hey guys. Since the center piece is plastic, I wanted to mention that you should be very careful when using a heat gun to remove the decal. I usually just use a normal hairdryer on plastic pieces to prevent any damage to the plastic. Heat guns normally put out between 500 - 1000 degrees fahrenheit, which is more than enough to damage plastic if you aren't careful.
If using any tools to help you remove a decal, you always want to keep in mind that you should use a tool that is *softer* than the material that you are removing the decal from. This is to prevent accidental scratching of the base material. Where I would use a razor blade for removing a decal from glass, I would not use one for removing something from plastic. Fingernails tend to work well on plastic items...at least just to get it started. Then add a bit of heat and pull as much of the decal off as you can. Repeat until completely removed. To remove the sticky residue, use any kind of adhesive remover or rubbing alcohol. As with using any chemical products, test it first in an inconspicuous spot to make sure it doesn't adversely react with the plastic.
Hope that helps!
