SOHC turbo drivers?
I was just wondering how many of you drive or know people with SOHC tuboed cars.
I'm wondering wether I should turbo my coupe(sohc vtec) or do a swap (maybe B18C1)
the engines got 90K miles on it.
Also who makes, in your opinion, a better turbo kit...DRAG, RevHard, or fmax?
...oh yeah and what could I expect from a turboed 98 coupe EX? (stock bottom end)

good luck man

Thanks AJN..
I have one more question to add though,
I had my head milled a while back .40, can I still turbo this engine due to the higher compression I supposedly got when it was milled?

hmmmm....
do you have any idea what the compression ratio might be since you got it milled. I don't think I could do the math!
sorry. Once we know, then we could give ya a better answer.
It really depends on the tuning. If you have it tuned correctly, there won't be a problem. If you plan to just boost the stock 5.5 psi the Greddy kit comes with, you should be fine.

nope, no idea what the compression is right know. I take it I would just have to get a normal compression check right? (how much would that costby the way, never had it it done before)
thanks
thanks
I have a sohc turbo also. It really depends on your goals and how fast you want to be. On my stock motor at 13psi, i was able to run 13.4 with the drag kit. The motor is now built and should be able to run 12's soon.

Running a SOHC turbo myself... I'm starting to get a weeeeeeeeeeee bit annoyed at hearing "swap" when I start thinking about squeezing more power out of my setup. The stock Civic rods are good to just a bit over 200 crank hp anyway, so as long as you keep it below that... you're good!
Sounds like a candidate for a thicker headgasket to remove some of that unwanted extra compression. Do a compression test and make sure all 4 cylinders are in good standing, do all your maitenence work first, then go ahead and turbo it. I personally use the GReddy and have no problems with it, but i would suggest looking up the Drag kit Ben at ImportParts is selling because there is SO much he includes with the kit, not to mention you're gonna make good power on a DRAG turbo. So far my best is only a 14.28@100.2 mph @10psi but that was with a terrible 2.29 60' time on my stock Firestone's.. next time I go I'm bringing some slicks and hopefully pulling some mid/lower 13's if I can hook up. Not bad for a bone stock D16 w/ 97k miles
If you did raise your compression by shaving the top of the block, you should probably consider getting a thicker headgasket. I got one, just to be safe. I got the 2mm thicker headgasket from Greddy. I also ordered an STR blockguard, just to be safe also. You really don't need a blockguard if your not going to run a lot of boost. I just did it as a safety precaution. But I think you should consider the thicker headgasket.
good luck,
