OEM only. When you do the measurements on different rods, you can never be too sure to put in the RIGHT size to get all the same clearances that you want.
You can't assume that X rods and Y rods and A Rods will all have the same exact precise machining process. Add the crank factor and then the block factor. There's just too many chances of one of those being off.

Can anyone tell me what exact clearance you are looking for when building a motor with Honda colors? The Helms manual gives you such a large operating variance that any color bearing you put in there will be in the acceptable range.
In most cases, I think people just use the colors so they won't have to measure anything.

Have you ever encountered certain rods that have uneven sizes.
Have you received cranks from customers that after being measured, you have to use colors from both ends of the spectrum.
What do you do then?
I don't think its not having to measure anything. I think its a matter of being precise.

As to rods, I would never use a set of rods that all 4 do not match.
But my real point is that no one can say what is the exact clearance Honda says is correct.
Is it .0013", .0015", .0017" or .00XX? If you say that only a color bearing gives you proper clearance, how do you take into account that these clearances were established for 6500 rpm engines making 150 hp back in the mid 1990's?

These companies who you guys are talking about have listings for Honda motor or you have to mock them up.Let me know I am interrested in this knowledge.I use Honda bearings in my motor.
