Default High Compression daily driver

searched but couldn't find anything.

I'm going to be around 12:1 - 12.5:1CR. I know i shouldn't have any problems with 93 octane and a good tune, but is this going to be ok for a daily driver? Anyone forsee any problems? I'm just a little bit worried about getting stuck in traffic on a hot day and pinging as the engine/coolant temps rise.

You can install a 28 pin ziff socket in your ECU and carry another
ROM with retarded ignition/richer fuel map so if you do start
pinging you can pull over, turn the ignition off and quickly
replace the chip, start it up and continue on your way.

Otherwise I would not worry about it. Just don't WOT it
everywhere when it is heat-soaked. You can control the cylinder
pressures by throttle input.

If your running larger than stock primary lobes (vtec engine) or larger cams (non-vtec) it will help. They make less cylinder pressure at low rpms and tend to detonate less.

i'd also like to know the answer to this, i am thinking about doing an lsvtec build up and am wondering if the high compression that i would be using would be ok daily driving and daily beating, and if it would last.

If I was going to convert to obd1 that would be fine I was going to use e-manage because I'm obd2 and need to pass emissions. aem ems is out of my budget.

Good advice. I'm going to be running bc3+'s which have a relatively large primary and more duration then stock cams. Therefore, static compression is slightly decreased.

No it's not worth the trouble for a daily driving. The compression on my car is around 12.5 and all the cylinders are over 300 psi. I put 93 octane in it all the time but it still pings. You're only going to lose about 2% hp if you stay at 11.5 compresion. Why worry about pinging if you're only gaining a few hp. That's just my 2 cents. If I could do it again I would've stuck with 11.5 but my setup is only tuned with a v-afc. Maybe if tuned better with a hondata it would run better. I'll let you know when I get hondata later this month.

^^^exactly....I think the key word here is TUNING...if it's going to be tuned really well to begin with, you're not going to have driveability issues, since that's what good tuning is.

you know, it's not always about the "you only lose 2% of power" thing with high compression...it's what you would like to run...what if you had bigger cams that need high compression?...it's all in the tuning...and what parts you're running...everything has to work together.

I have an OBD2 vehicl and im run n OBD1 computer with jumper harness. when u go get ur inspection done just remove ur OBD1 ECU and harnes and plug in ur OBD2 ECU. run a program like UBERDATA, CROME, HONDATA. UBERDATA and CROME will run u about $100 in parts and software to convert ur ECU to a stand alone EMS. if ur interested i can set it up for u if u can get me an OBD1 ecu

well I have a 12.7 to 1 setup as a daily driver
its fine when its cold in the winter on 93
but anything other than that
timing is pulled back and its all assed out unless you run some race gas
I wish I didnt go so high on compression

what fuel management are you using? I'm starting to wonder if the compression I chose is going to be too high(12.0:1).

How long have you been running this setup for? How much timing is being pulled? I was under the impression that running "dat" high of a compression on Factory cams is really pushing it!

motor has a couple thousand miles on it now....hasnt blown up yet....retarted 2 degrees on base timing with dizzy with close to stock timing maps and can only get it to ping below 2000rpm in 4th gear floored...so if i can only get it to ping under that kinda load i wouldnt worry about it
the car has a msd ignition system with timing controll...so 91 on the street at 14btdc and 100oct at the track with 18btdc base timing...works out well i think
