Question on GS-R idling
I have a 95 GS-R which has never really had any problems. The previous owner was maticulous on maintaining it and also with doing preventative maintenence. I am the same with the car but lately I have noticed that the car has been idling a bit funny.
Some days, the rpm's will sit right on 900 and not move a millimeter but others (after warming up) it will sit at 900, then drop down to 400-600. Just curious on what i may want to look into doing to fix this problem if it's even a problem at all. Let me know... It would be appreciated.

hmm could the whether, cold will boost rpm up by a little. My car at cold days, ild 900, warm is about 700
your 400-600rpm is not good, a small vacuum line leaks should be right.
the bad thing about small vacuum leaks is that they sometime bring your rpm up and stay constant, and they sometime surging your rpm up and down too.
hope this help.

Happens in the summer too
Usually in the summer i think when it goes down below 900 it sits at 600rpms. Is a vacuum leak easy to fix? I've never had a problem with the rpm's surging up... only down.

for vacuum leaks, take a can of the cheapest $1 carb cleaner at autozone, and spray it on the vacuum lines and around the intake manifold and throttle body gaskets. when you hear the idle go up, you've found your leaking spot. also, before going to autozone, just look at the hoses and visually inspect them. probably just an old hose.
Hey 95ls, is a vacuum leak more often than not the cause of such a problem? I dont know about the Integra but on my 02 Spec-V I have the same problem and sometimes it will stall with the rpms going so low. I'm throwing a multiple misfire code which could be a bunch of things but I think its a leak too. Unfortunately the lower manifold gasket is a PITA to change.
yes, a vacuum leak may cause unsteady idling and it may cause misfiring. check all of your hoses, first, because that's easy. just follow them with your fingers, since it's a new car, and feel them, and check that they are attatched at each end, etc. if that's not it, then go get some carb cleaner. the yellow and black bottle one at autozone. $1.29, at least where i live. i use that stuff so often i keep a couple bottles in my garage as common shop stock. anyways, don't spray a lot, just as tiny a bit as you can get to come out, so you know when you hear the idle go up, you know you weren't spraying stuff all over. that won't help you find your leak. and yes, intake manifold gaskets can be a PITA, but it's something i'm getting better and better at, though i'm surprised i just admitted to it freely.

I just took a quick look over all the rubber hoses... None of them look to be cracked... Is there any certain one i should look at inparticular? I feel stupid but to be honest I'm not even sure which hoses are vacuum hoses and which aren't
I know a decent amount about cars but obviously not enough.

However, I do have carb cleaner sitting in my garage. Would it be good if I posted a picture of the engine than you can paint on the picture where the hoses that i should spray on? If no I'm going to plan on talking to a buddy of mine that is much more knowledgable. Let me know. Thanks
sure, do that. give me your email and i'll email a pic back to you. i haven't had a lot of luck hosting pics to post here, but i can put nice colored arrows in MS Paint and email you back. in fact, just email me the pic. THEANTILES@AOL.COM oh yeah, and by the way, no, there is no specific hose you should check, and if you can get your friend to look at it for free, then do it. every little bit of help, helps.
I called my buddy and talked ot him about which hoses to be looking at even though i looked at them all.... They all look fine to me. It's alright to be spraying carb cleaner around in the engine bay??? Being that I'm a trial user, this is my last message... you can email msg me on AIM at Jamzrowear12. Otherwise I may create a new account if need be. Let me know... It'll be greatly appreciated. I also have picture of the hoses that I just took and will probably be taking a few more to verify on where I'm supposed to spray the carb cleaner.
really cool?

i think its kind of what your talking about but if your idle surges a little check your coolant. If its low check for leaks, if you find one fix it. Other than that top off your coolant and bleed the system. Air in the cooling system will cause an idle surge.
hey i have the same idle problems, could someone please post a pic up and circle all the lines i have to check. Would be highly a ppreciated.
Is it cheap to replace all the vacuum lines anyways?

if you want a BUNCH of pics, talk to jamzrowear12. i talked to him about the problem at great length, and gave him some good pics of all the vacuum lines if you're unsure of which lines under your hood are for manifold vacuum.
