Default What's needed to get a JDM ITR engine passed smog in Cali?

I guess the questions is what's the difference between the JDM and USDM engine. I've searched and found some of the answer. From what I gather, and you guys can correct me on this, and please add to this, but;

1) The heads are pretty much identical, with the exception of the cams which differ by the year in Japan.

2) The JDM has a higher compression dome piston.

3) Intake manifolds are different.

4) No EGR on the JDM.

Basically, could I get a JDM DC2-R engine to pass Cali ref and smog?

Any info appreciated.

Thanks,
J

Okay, to pass the BAR, you're going to have to swap a motor that has the same emission standards as the factory engine installed in your car. What year car are you swapping, what type of motor did it come stock with, and what type of emission components did that motor have? These are questions you're going to have to ask yourself and compare it to the motor you're going to purchase. Rule of Thumb- the older your car, and the newer the motor, the more likely you're going to be able to pass BAR. If you're trying to pass a 2000 ITR in a 2000 Civic EX, that's probably not likely! I'd imagine you'd be able to pass it in EF, EG, and possibly EK.

Thank, Eq.

I'm thinking about dropping in a 96+ ITR motor in my 94 Civic EX coupe. Currently has the D16Z6, and has no problems passing smog right now, so all the emissions crap is in place.
