Default Trans grind

i think my throw out/ release bearing is shot because downshifts=grinds, mainly in 1st gear. i have heard that this is a common problem amongst older civics...anyone have any input on my situatuion

You are not supposed to downshift into 1st! It dosn't have a sycro and thing over a certian speed it will grind!

ya man i know what you mean. my first grinds pretty bad and it sounds like it's starting to do it in second but i mean it drives perfect other than that.

Just don't downshift into first until you stop then. Simple fix and no need to tear the car apart. I see no reason to downshift into first unless you are going under 5mph.

even at 5mph you don't need to downshift.... work the clutch and your straight...

the only time you should downshift to first is at a complete stop.

what i should have said was, downshifting from 3,2 grinds, also at a complete stop from neutral to 1st sometimes grinds, when the car is idleing there is a rattle noise comming from the transmission side, when the clutch is engaged rattleing stops
