Does Vtec work if your MAP sensor is bad?
I have a code 5. Map sensor code. Some one told me that this meant that the MAP sensor can not hold vaccum and that would cause Vtec not to work. Although my car is runnig fine with no idle or acceleration problems. I thought Vtec was working but I could be wrong. This is my first Vtec car. At what RPM does Vtec kick in? Oh, I have a 95 civic ex coupe. I just do not want to spend $300.00 and that not be the problem. I also reset the computer and it came back on. Thanks for any help.

on a single cam, its hard to tell when it engages. I assume he has a d16z6 because he has a 95 ex, so its hard to tell exactly when vtec kicks in on a stock single cam motor.

so let's just say i have would short ram intake and exhaust on my d16y8. would i be able to tell when vtec kicks in then? or do i need much more?

Yeah about $300.00 from honda. I just needed to know if it really mattered and if it caused vtec not to work. Because we cant be having that. Must ......Have.....Vtec......
vtec in a single (which is what im guessing you have) is almost un noticeable. and its probably going to kick in at about 5500 make sure its plugged in and everything because the same thing happened to me when I had to unplug my map sensor to change my head gasket
