Default VTEC-E with a p06 ecu, help

ok, I put a po6 ecu with my vx motor, and used a 4 wire o2 sensor because the po7 ecu uses a 5 wire. I didn't want to pay the cash for a 5 wire o2 that's why I am using the po6 (dx ecu).

my question is.. will vtec-e still engage with the po6? I know how regular Vtec works but no one has really explained vtec-e. Thanks.

When your below 2500 rpms, your engine is running only 12 valve. After 2500, it opens up the remaining 4 valves (total 16). someone correct me if im wrong, but the vtec-e shouldnt engage because the dx ecu does not have the vtec? not really sure. i just got tired of it all and went with a mini me swap.. wayyyy better imo

First off if you are using a stock p06 ecu you will not have vtec. If you are using a p06 converted to vtec and using a chip program. Then you will have to figure how lean/rich the program is setup and where your vtec activates and rev limit. Vtec e e is just economy (gas mileage). Please someone else on HT go into detail about this...

You could use the EX/SI P28 ecu. You will really feel the vtec kick in at 5000 rpm. Oh by the way, you will aslo be able to rev all the way to 7200rpm with no problem.

wtf you will not feel the vtec in an vtec-E motor al this vtec does is save gas it does not give any type of kick so kaiba i don't kno wtf ur talking about

you're right! i have a 92 vx and i swapped out the motor for 2000 d16y8 (i love the d-series) the vx motor was ok at low rpm but ran out of power real quick. forget about trying to make power with that motor unless you're rich and want to throw away a bunch of money.

yea, just swap the cam or just the whole head on that monkey. And then run a P28 on it and all should be good. But no, the P06 will not operate the vtec on any motor, unless the right modifications are done.

hmm.. i didn't really find the answer i was looking for.. but i guess a butt dyno will help. i have both ecu's. the po6 and po7, but the o2 sensor i am using is not a 5 wire(stock on a VX). it's a 4 wire that i rigged in place of the 5 wire. **and that is the only reason why i am using the dx ecu)

see my question is kind of like... since the dx ecu operates on 4 valves per cylinder all the time; shouldnt the vx motor now be operating on all 16 valvles instead of just 12 valves below 2500 rpm.
basically is the 4th valve in each cylinder mechanically actuated by the speed at which the motor is revving, or is the 4th valve in each cylinder being actuated by the ECU.

heres what i think... vtec-e is just kind of not really vtec to me at all(vtec that needs to be actuated). it's just a motor running on 12 valves, until the ecu or rpms tell it to run on all 16... it's not the kind of vtec that needs to be actuated by a vtec solenoid... or is it?! i dont know.. anybody else have an opinion on this matter?

maybe ill just do a test... whatever ecu i get better gas mileage with i will use. lol.

Hey I have a 3 month old 5 wire o2 sensor in my 99 HX. I paid 350$ for it but swapped in a B16B. I will sell it to you for $150. let me know.

I don't know for certrain, but I thought I saw a solenoid in my hx. Also, if it doesn't I don't think its only based on RPM because the actual "crossover" varies in RPM. And if it was just the ecu then it would never come on because the dx doesn't have any form of vtec.

And as far as feeling a bigger "kick" with using an ex ecu. That's partially true. Because you would be running on 12 valves all the way past 5K rpms. Then suddenly start running on all 16. It would be like running with sand bags for 100 yards and then droping them.

actually, about the "kick", you dont feel it at all if the crossover is at 2500. i was playing around with my crossover and set it to 5200 for fun and it "kicked" hella hard. but thats just because of the extra valves kickin in

Don't do it. I'm pretty sure that oil pressure locks the two valves together, and so you need to have VTEC activated to run all 16 valves. So, if you use a P06, it'll run in 12 valve mode all of the time.

Not to mention, the VX is a tricky motor with deeply dished pistons, and the ECU is programmed to give less fuel to the motor so a "swirling" effect can be generated in the pistons. I wouldn't run anything but a P07 on a VX motor unless you enjoy doing engine swaps frequently.

If anyone have a VX motor slap the P28 ecu and test if for yourself. I did this will back in the old days.
