weight diffrence of EF drums to Rear Discs??
just picked up gsr brakes all around formy 90 crx dx.. I was atleast thinking about putting the rears on till I get the right knuckles for the front... but I was wondering how much heavier are the disc than the drums?? thanks!
IIRC, 8lbs. per side is the weight that is floating around. It has been asked before. Do let us know if you are able to weigh both.
i love drums and would never trade them for disc. HF owns all. But then again i would switch from disc to drum either. I say rock what is on it stock and just upgrade front brakes where it matters....

I don't think I've ever come accross a hard number from a source I knew personally to be totally reliable. I'm still running drums.
Try searching & see what you come up with. Here's one of the more recent threads I remember reading that touched on this subject - I assure you there are more:

yeah I think Ill do that , they are off a 00' gsr, I guess Ill just remove one side and weigh it, like you guys said, might as well switch to discs since I have it,, its just I want my brakes a little more reassuring when I am almost 110 mph at the end of the 1/4... little scary
Try a different pad. Better than adding weight. Most of your braking is done at the front anyway. Talk to Andy at http://www.cobaltfriction.com.
The weight differences is not enough to worry about.
I put disc brakes on the back of my 88 crx si and it stops better than before and my car didn't get slower from the extra weight, I used 90-93 teg disc, It also stops much better in the rain when the brakes get wet, looks more cool, they last longer than drum, easy er to change the pads, they don't fade down big hills, so put them on, and enjoy slamming on your brakes and stopping on a dime.

sounds good Ill be doing this this weekend,.. I got 00' gsr rears,, what ebrake cable can I use? and did you have a problem w/ you stock brake hoses? thanks!
I used the brake lines from a 91 CRX SI 4 wheel disc brake car,the part number is [46430-SK7-931] special order took a couple days, I got them from the Honda dealer in Costa mesa Ca. I used the e-brake cable from the 90-93 teg its a little longer but it works fine just get two cable clamps and rout them so the cables so they wont bind. Its a little tricky getting the e-brake cables through the chassis but have Patience it will all go in and work great it took me about 4 hours to do the whole job from ground to jack to ground.
i'm getting ready to do the rear disc swap on my rex it's worht it for the eaz of not have to deal with spring kits when doing drum brakes.
i prefer rear disc they look cool even if they don't help you any with braking you can aggree they don't make it worse.

Brake shoes for drum brakes lasts MUCH longer than disc brakes but it is much easier as you stated to change pads vs shoes.

Yup. Did the same thing on my 88 HF and it stops better. I'm not concerned with the extra weight either (i love my car weighing in at 1900lbs even WITH the ls swap
), its not THAT much of a difference anyways. ****, u can offset the weight of the discs and get some lightweight rims.

sounds good guys, did you guys also change you MC? I replaced mine a year ago, and I guess they accidently gave me a 15/16...weird but hopefully I wont have to replace it. and so the brake lines is a must then for the rear discs? my gsr's have the hoses still on them....I wonder how different they are, also I heard about all the bad things of swapping the 94 and up front integra spindles, I know I need to get DA's or 90-91 EX's, has any personally swaped these newer spindles on? even w/ the car lowered and w/ the ingles camber kit? let me know, thanks guys

the mc isnt a big deal, the prop valve is however. doing a 40/40 prop valve swap is much better then stock and distributes the braking more evenly.
