Default removing butterflies out of gsr im

i've been reading some threads about this lately and never knew you could do this on a gsr im. so by removing them would make them exactly like b16a or b18c5 im it would be a single stage im so i would would just have 1 loud as vtec. would i gain any kind on power from doing this at all?. here's on seup on my 99 gsr
-cai
-dc 4-1 header
-test pipe
-2.5in exhaust
-fpr w/gauge
-exedy clutch
-8lbs flywheel
-obx stage 1 cams
-vafc2

would i gain any extra power from doing this a getting it tuned. also hat if i ported it some would it flow almost like the skunk2 im?

no, you'll lose good midrange band - evne more so if you use gsr cams ... there are two ports for each cylinder that air has to "figure out" how to flow for the entire rpm band ... get skunk2 or modify an itr one if you wanna do it the right way

If you're going to modify a GSR IM, you need to hog out the inside to remove the split runners so that there is only one big runner. You also have to do the same for the secondary throttleplates and the top piece. Hard to explain but if you crack one open, you'll see what I am talking about.

That works if you have a lot of time and patience, trust me I tried . You're better off buying a Blox which can be had for like $200 shipped.

yea, right.

So you tell me your modified GSR IM is the greatest thing since sliced bread... but you dont want to let us in on how you came the conclusion that it outflows everything on the market?

Hmmmmm... do you have a bridge in Brooklyn that you are selling by any chance?

well i know when i did that a long time ago in 1995 that i lost 10ftlbs of torque and my car ran shittier with louder vtec.... dont do it, unless you are willing to go into it and spend alot more money to make a stock gsr intake manifold into a "race" setup like eric's racing...just save some time and money to get a new manifold.

You will gain power if the motor has higher compression and some cams. No sense in giving the motor more air if it cant flow that much

i have an idea cut up the manifold and use it as a quasi itb setup. just dont use the throttle body and maybe make the butterflies bigger. Port the manifold and bore the butterfly holes. Now whos tried this.

I agree. GSR manifold properly ported with functioning IABs have seen some hela dynos with some hela torque (for a B series anyways)!! Personally IMO I would keep the GSR manifold and go with something more worthwhile like a good cam. Just my opinion though.

ericks racing anyone the gsr manifold works just needs alot of port work which the typical Joe cant do and doesnt have 8+hours to do it right

interesting idea vtecmissle... but you're forgetting the fact that the butterflies only cover half the opening. The other half is wide open and will basically cause your motor to rev as high as it can till it pops heh...

i had already thought about that. I just didnt want to go into a lot of detail in my question. I figured a straight shot would be beneficial also so i was contemplating cutting it up and milling a circle around the plates for a velocity stack. Or just welding aluminum rolled tubing (rings) around the openings and filling with a filler rod. I would then cut the buterfies out and remount them to shortened straight gsr runners. I am going to do this. I might leave the old square holes and use them for vacuum ports by welding 1 inch tubing over them with holes facing the manifold and the fittings coming through that. i need a spare gsr manifold now so i can try this.
