Cam gear compatibility? Y8 gear on A6 cam
Sup all, I picked up an AEM cam gear from a buddy for real cheap, wanting to use it on my A6. But from what I've read, it says that the 96+ cam gear will set the timing off by about 3-5 degrees. Being that its an adjustable cam gear i figure i could just......adjust it..... But does anyone know how much i would have to adjust it to get it stock? I have a D16a6 with Delta 272 camshaft and a Y8 headgasket (so i believe i was supposed to advance timing a little to compensate for that?). I've searched and cant get any definate answers. Thanks all
Take the A6 one off and match it to the Y8 one.
Make sure they have the same tooth count and are teh same diameter.
Then, make sure the woodruff keys are matched up and mark the Y8 gear accordingly.

The y8 one doesnt have the key, its built into the stock a6 gear. So i'm gettin ready to go pick one up from autozone.
Y8 gear isn't the same, but I guess you can switch up the timing enough. As said above, make sure the teeth count is the same. 88-95 work on the A6.
AEM 3 bolt? Be careful and retighten after a couple miles driving on it I've heard they slip.

im also fairly certain. for future reference 1/2 tooth= 5 degrees = or- but ull be alright setting it 5 degrees advanced or retarded.
