DIY Boost control...
For a turbo with an internal wastegate, is there any reason why I can just build myself a mechanical boost controler? Wouldn't I just need a vacume T, a valve, and a piece of silicone hose? Am I missing something? Unless I'm completely lost (wouldn't be surprised if I am) I just need to bleed a little boost away from the waste gate. If this won't work, please explain. Again, I'm dumb, so I could be way off base.
Thanks!
Thanks!
It will work and you will probably need a few check valves but your car will not be as responsive. What i mean is the boost that is bleeding off is just wasted. So it will take a little longer to spool up.It's also not the safest route to go because there is no control ove how much boost your running.I tried the check valves and it worked ok i was able to boost to 7psi for a second then it droped back to 5psi.I have since installed a manual bost controller that doesn't waste the bleed off and my turbo spools a lot sooner (about 1,800 rpm's) and feels more responsive.I'm runing 7psi and that 7pi is a lot better feeling then with the check valve. try boostvalve.com they have cheap manual boost controllers that work.thats where i got mine.i just got the universal one for $35 or so.
Good link. I'm going to try it!
I might buy one, then try to make a copy of it. I just like to mess around with stuff.
Thanks all for the tips/help.
