ok, Lately ive ben having this wierd no start problem with my eg hatch. Today I go to start it after its sat over night. I turn the key then nothing no click nothing. So i turn it about 5 times then i hear a click turn it again another click, turn it one more time and it starts right up. Im thinking it might be the starter as the day before the same thing happend and i tapped the starter with a hammer then it started right up any ideas? or do u guys mostly agree that it sounds like the starter?

sounds to me like you hit the problem on the head..literally.

lol, yea it kinda sucks because every time i got to check to make sure the starter is getting power with a voltmeter the damn thing starts up.

 

it's probably getting voltage,but is not engaging.

yea i think their is something screwey with it because it was also doing this and i pushed the car forward not started and then tried it again and it started up. So pushing the car forward moved the starter and made it work. thanks man

 

try tightening the battery cables, my neg side was lose and it always did this to me

 

Try checking out the wire that goes from the starter to the battery... it can be loose and loosing contact... especially if it is cold

 

Yep, definitly always best to check the wiring first. If it's not that, you probably have a flat spot in the starter and it needs to be replaced or rebuilt.

 

u need a rebuild ,you might go a few more weeks w/ it how it is,,,carry a hammer or something to hit it w/ to nock the crap loose inside it......(backyard trick, sometime works......seriously)
