Default LS/VTEC back to LS......

Hey everyone....

Been a while since I posted in All Motor....

Anyways, I'm deciding to go back to LS from my LS/VTEC setup (personal reasons)...

I'm wondering what items am I going to need to convert BACK and have the motor porperly running....

Items I know needed so far:

LS Head (Duh)
LS Headgasket
LS ECU - Not sure which Year or if it matters (currently running Kenji P06)

Is there anything else I am forgetting???

Also a couple questions... since I have a Kenji OBD-I ECU I didn't bother with a knock sensor... Would I have to put one on my block in order to run properly or would it cause a CEL.....

And the bottom end sits with CTR pistons. On a Stock LS head with 3 layer gasket it should yield an 11.4:1 compression so I am guessing it will be fine with that....

Timing belt, I am assuming I can reuse the VTEC belt.... (Only about 5k miles)

Engine wiring is a STOCK DX harness but I added the VTEC Solenoid and jumped the proper pins for VTEC. Can I leave that the way it is???

Any other suggestions comments or anything I am forgetting please list them for me....

Just undo whatever you did to supply oil to the head, like replace the oil pressure sensor in the back of the block.

I'm still thinking there's more to it than just that, but Thanks, I didn't write that one down.....

Yes I used dowel Pins, However, I used the Gold Eagle dowels, so I did not have to hone the head at all.....

btw, thanks for the Headasket, I'll add that, no brainer....

CTR's in an LS yield almost 12.4:1 CR

No..its not. With CTR's in an LS, you have 0.000 piston to deck clearance.

I have P30's in mine and I yield 11.1:1.

I'm MOST certain that the piston to deck height with PCT pistons in an LS is 0.030.......

You may want to recalculate in your head and make sure, if anyone else cares to verify this please do, whether or not it is one of said values....

Also, KEEP IN MIND MY MAIN POST.... I am still not sure what else is NEEDED to be complete.....

ie - Wiring harness, etc. etc.

Just read 1st post......

Thanks

why for the change ? did you like the ls/vtec set up you had. will i think that you will need to block off the oil line on the head. you can only run the vtec timing belt if your water pump and oil pump are from vtec. i ahve a ls head that i will let go for cheap w/manifold. well good luck and hope everything wours out well

for me to know i am doing a ls/vetc set up as we speek and i was just wondering if you can give me some advicefor this set up i am using the stock ls b18a bottom end.

I would greatly suggest higher compression pistons.....

feel free to PM me or aim: Shift9ear80

If you have any questions.... Again, I am going back for personal reasons, I loved LS/VTEC, but I have my reasons....

No, in all seriousness, contact arw321, He will tell you everything you need to know, b/c he himself runs PCT's in his LS. When I used to calculate it I kept getting 11.7 or 11.8:1 CR until I found out that the Piston to deck height is 0.000.
