Default Flywheel locking tool??

Hey guys I can't take the flywheel off because it keeps spinning when I try to twist it off. Anyway the helms manual says to use the special tool which is a Gear Ring Lock. My question is, are all gear ring locks the same? I assume not... But would I need to get something like this directly from honda or would they carry them at NAPA or some other store to work with a specific car?

I really want to get it off tomorrow since its the weekend and honda parts dept is only open on weekends if they even sell it there.

thanks.

Its a special order part, and it retails for $130 I think....

Just have a friend hold the crank with a breaker bar while you go at the flywheel...

^^ that's your best advice. If you have no friends, try and position it so the breaker bar won't move while you are doing your thing.

just find something to jam the flywheel, making it not rotating.
I use a sucket with the correct length to jam/lock it to the tranny housing.

the crank is the bolt where you rotate the clylinder for top dead center.
If you have the crank thingy tool you can have it done so easily.

just do like I mention above....
find one of your sucket tool and jam it on the flywheel's gear teeth against the clutch housing or aka engine block.
It will prevent the flywheel from spinning so you can break the bolts loose.
But the best way is to have someone hold the crank and while you break the bolts loose.

You can use a flywheel turning tool to hold the fly in place. Autozone or schucks has them and they are less than $10.

1. Buy a new alternator belt.

2. Buy tool above for 15$

3. Cut you current alternator belt the diam. of the crank pully

4. Wrank the crank pulley with the cut belt and hold in place with duck tape

5. Use your 15$ tool to hold the crank pully by wraping it wround the pulley on top of the belt. (keeps from fu*king up your pulley.)

6. If motor is out of car, put the a/c copmressor bracket on the block and utilize the leverage

I just took it off myself... I used one of those crossbars for lucks. fortunately it had a 17mm side and i stuck it into the crank. I tilted the motor, kept one foot on the crossbar, placed the ratched over the flywheel bolt, and placed a long vacuum cleaner pipe over the ratched to use as a breaker bar and did this to each one, LOL it came off fine !!!!

gheetooo i know, i dont even have a breaker bar.

I have done it numerous times. Just be smart about the type of screwdriver used.
