if you do a swap and get it ref'd. can you add after market carb approved parts. does it have to go with the yr of the car or the yr and model of the swapped motor?
i have 89 civic and crx and thinking bout ls or d16y/z
i want to do a swap and add a forced induction kit to it. but dont know if it'd be legal.

 

Technically, the CARB legal parts have to be the ones for the motor you're swapping in.

no CRX intakes on a 95 GSR motor, for example.
Although, I put my CARB legal Injen intake on my motor after I got my BAR sticker. A cop will just want to see the CARB sticker.

As Mr_CRX said, any aftermarket item added has to be CARB certified to the year and type of engine.

When I got my 89 hatchback through the referee, I had the legal Skunk 2 intake and DC sport headers on it. Both are CARB legal to the B18C (95) engine.

What is a problem is that there is no aftermarket air intake tubes available (as Adam is hinting at). As an example, if I got one from AEM that is legal to the B18C, it may not fit correctly within the hatchback engine compartment. If I picked up one that is for the "body", then it's not legal to the engine. AEM does make "hybrid" intakes, but they are not CARB legal.
