There isn't really a B16A1 - it's just a B16A. A B16A is a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) motor, and when people talk about it they USUALLY refer to it as a "1st gen." The "first gen" B16A is found in the 1988-1991 Civic/CR-X SiR and 1990-1993 Integra Xs-i (maybe other Tegs too) in Japan. MOST importantly they have CABLE trannies, so they are intended to go in the 1988-1991 Civics and CR-X and the 1990-1993 Integras. They have been put in other cars, like older Preludes, 1987 CR-X and Civics, etc. Since they have the cable trannies, they are NOT the best motor for the 1992-1995 Civics. The 1st-gen B16A has the weakest profile cams of the whole B16A bunch, they are pre-OBD, and depending on the tranny you could get the shittiest ever (S1 LS) or really good USDM ITR equivalent gearing and 4.400 FD if you get a J1 (some S1 too, but too confusing.) The Y1 is decent, but it has a shitty 4.26 Final drive and taller gearing than the J1/S1 from the Integra XS-i. I think the 1st gen is rated at 158hp.

The B16A2 is found in the 1999-2000 Civic Si. It has a HYDROLIC tranny, which is what makes it the best B16A for US cars 1992-up (except for the still-cable trannied 1992-1993 Integras ) The B16A2 from the Civic Si is OBDII, so it's very easy to drop it in a 1996-2000 Civic, but it's still very easy to drop it in a 1992-1995 Civic too with an OBDI VTEC ECU. The B16A2 has better cams than the 1st-gen, and they are (under)rated at 160hp. The gearing in the tranny for the B16A2 is good too, but there is an on-going debate on the final drive - some say 4.400, others say 4.26. Who knows?

The B16A3 is most commonly found here in the Del Sol VTEC model. It's a DAMN GOOD choice for the 1992-1995 Civic. It's OBDI, has 160hp, and excellent gearing and the 4.400 final drive. Most importantly, it comes with an OBDI DOHC VTEC ECU, so you don't have to worry about re-chipping an ECU. (You can do that later.)

After typing all of that I just realized that you're from Norway. I know NOTHING about the Euro-Spec Honda stuff, so you guys could have gotten B16A2/3 and even the 1st-gen B16A and I won't really know or not. The stuff I've typed up is good info for someone in the US trying to do a swap - at least I told you the difference though, right?

im planning on getting a jdm b16 SiR2 long block for a swap. do you know what kind of axle and ecu i would have to use and also whats a good trans for this setup? i was thinking to get the longblock for cheap and then getting the rest of the parts from some junkyard for cheap also. how much would the rest of the swap cost?

ok, lets make something clear. JDM b16's dont have the suffix "A1" or "A2". only USDM b16a's and maybe some euro spec models too. from 88-91 the japanese b16a's aka: 1million series, have cable trannies and 10.2:1 compression. 92-00 japanese b16a's aka: 5million series, have 10.4:1 compression with hydro trannies. all USDM b16a's have 10.2:1 compession. the b16a2 only comes in usdm model civics and maybe some weird *** euro spec. i dont know. so by saying you are getting a "jdm b16a2," it doesnt exist.
