What's wrong with my Honda Accord? Very strange behaviour...
Hello,
I own a 92' Accord EX-R with automatic transmission, the car has 156,000 Km's and runs like new.
I scheduled a Type 2 maintenance and to have the rear brakes done at the local dealership.
After inspecting the car they ended up performing the following:
-Type 2 maintenance
-Resurfaced rear brakes, replaced pads, serviced calipers
-Recall for Oil pressure switch leak
-Recall for rear seat belt sensor
-Replaced R/F wheel stud (stripped)
-Brake fluid flush
-Replaced leaking oil pan gasket
-Replaced timing belt and front engine seals
-Replaced water pump
I got the car back last night and everything seemed to be working just fine.
While driving home tonight I noticed that something was not right.
When accelerating from a dead stop the car seems to stumble at 2,500 RPM's, it almost feels like it won't shift or something, then after stumbling for a few seconds it accelerates like a turbo has been slapped on!
This seems to happen at random, sometimes it's fine and other times it acts up.
The feeling is really quite strange... It feels like a turbo lag although the engine is completely stock.
Any ideas as to what could be wrong?
I'm going to call the dealership tomorrow but I was hoping that someone had an idea.
Thanks,
Zak

My guess would be EGR is clogged, this typically causes hesitation in the rpm's you specified. If you're already bringing your car to the dealer you may want to bring this up to your service advisor but they will more than likely look at it since it's a typical problem with 4th and 5th gen accords.
If not I can get you a DIY

was there an incresed warranty/ quasi-recall for the EGR on either 4th or 5th gens?...or am i just imaging things?

Not to my knowledge, basically the problem lies with the design (basically recirculates exhaust gas back into the IM to burn it more and reduce emissions)...it requires more cleaning; with the write-up I have seen it provides an easy way to clean the egr ports for future maintanence.

Is this problem related to the work that was performed on my car?
If it's not related it would be quite the coincidence for this to start happening the day after visiting dealership.

Can you post the DIY for others who are experiencing the same tye of problem. Thanks

First, have a look under hood to see if a vacum line has been left loose. I'd then make sure the engine will rev out to at least 5200 rpms, if not the timing belt is a tooth off. I think that in all fairness you should contact the people that did the work, calmly explain the situation, and give them a chance to make things right.
THEN; if they don't make things right....break their knee caps LOL

Yea check vacuum lines too...that can cause the same problems.

typically with the service items you listed, nothing should have affected the engine slugishness, sometimes these problems just occur or quite possibly you are just now noticing it after the new parts are on *shrug* it's happened before.

I have noticed that the problem isn't really random after all.
If the vehicle has been sitting over night and then I start it up and drive any distance it's fine but if I start it again after driving it already (car still warm) then the first time I reach approx 2,500 RPM's it happens.
I called the dealership and booked the car in for Monday, they were quite defensive when I mentioned that the car was fine before they did the work.
This might be difficult to prove that it was indeed there fault...
Where are the vacum lines, anyone have a picture or diagram?
Thanks to all.

Vacuum lines will be going into your intake manifold near the firewall, there should be multiple lines hooked up back there I would honestly look for something that could be disconnected.

The big ol thing that says pgm-fi, this is 1 of your 2 intake manifolds...there is another just behind the valve cover but this one I am showing you is where most of the vacuum lines are located. GL

It will be difficult to prove. Mind my asking what your stealership charged you ?
