A 12-point socket (I believe it's 12mm, but it's been a while) and a ratchet, available at almost any decent hardware or auto parts store.

Just have a buddy stick a crowbar or a screwdriver in one of the teeth to hold it still.

cool thread, I'm in the process of removing it also.

Do the flywheels need to be torqued down to a certain specification? If so, what spec?

Use an impact. Won't turn. Craftsman sells electric impacts, which aren't as strong, but cheaper than buying an air impact and an air tank.

make sure you tighten the fly wheel kinda like a tire, tighten across and work around...

me and my buddy put a d15b in his 97ex and we didnt tighten the flywheel down to spec i guess, well 3 days later is fell off! we had to have the car towed
