Default New Super Slick Steering Rack arrived! *pics*

Woodward Rack, 1/2 a turn lock to lock! No power assist! I have to say I am shocked at how heavy it is.. I thought 1-3 lbs but its probably upwards of 4!

this is going to take some serious getting used to!

That's for the SPU car right? Half a turn in a 3000 lb M coupe would be hellish!

Ye.. Honestly the M coupe without power assist is unbearable! I'm a pretty strong guy and I have serious problems if i disable the system! ( its done via software which is cool!)

1/2 turn lock to lock?

You better not ever sneeze on a high speed straightaway.

Although I'm guessing SPU is an AutoX class I'm not familiar with. If thats the case, disregard the above statement.

Its a road racing class. Its for Super Production Vehicles (almost no rules.. besides safety)... I think an F1 car is 3/4 turn lock to lock so this could be crazy!

Where did you buy the rack and how much did it cost. My tubeframe CRX has an OEM Honda rack and I would like to change it out.

Here is one place. I don't see any ratios listed that are 1/2 turn lock to lock though. Is it custom or just have a short stroke? I don't see how you could fit a pinion in that housing to make it go 6" in 1/2 turn...

Here is another place if you want to save some $$

Its relatively short stroke.. it has 4.22" per turn. Its a custom pinion from a machine shop

So you are only using 2.11" of total stroke?

No, that cant be right.. yet thats what the math shows.. Ill measure it tomorrow and get back to you.

The kit also came with a steering quickener which I am not sure if I will use or not.. I wonder if thats part of the rated 1/2turn l2l

that would take so long to get used to... in a sense though, it would make a good anti theft device... people wouldnt be able to drive away cause they couldnt controll it... haha

Jesus, 1/2 turn lock to lock PLUS a quickener?? You'd better pack a breaker bar incase you need to paralel park.

I think that the steering quickener box in addition to the rack will give you the 1/2 turn that you describe. The rack itself is more like 1 1/2 turns if you use the full 6" stroke lock to lock. Still mighty quick.

.....this might seem like a silly question; but is there some sort of weight savings associated as well?

No matter how I think of this I can't imagine this being a very good idea. Unless the thing is going to have a crazy large turning radius to begin with...

Unfortunately, it has not been going at all for about a year now. The last year was spent rebuilding the CRX engine, caging the CRX, caging a spec miata, finishing the detached garage for more work room, and a host of other distractions.

The good news is that I have gotten all that stuff taken care of now and I am about to get going again on the Seven. My new year's resolution for this year is to get that Seven going! Once I get things in order, and get my web site updated to it's current state, I will shoot you a link.

Are you keeping a build diary anywhere to see?

Not really a diary but a bunch of pics @ http://www.want2race.net/lotus7

The info pages doesnt change as often as my mind does however..

I wont be using the steering quickener.. Its just too fast! I am going to go without it and thus achieve 1 turn lock to lock.. If its not enough I could had a 1.5:1 unit to replace the 2:1 i have right now..
