Default Got a few questions about my tranny setup :-)

Hi guys.
What do you think is the best tranny for a 500 whp+ street car for high speed driving? (for aprox 180 mph @ 9000rmp) I actually got the 95 integra LS hydro tranny but I was told that this is a very weak tranny and i shell go with a GSR tranny. What do you think?

Can I "upgrade" my LS tranny to a GSR tranny with this gears?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT

So can I put theese gears and shafts plug and play into my LS tranny?

I´m also searching for a list where all the gear ratios of the honda/acura models are shown..

The LS transmission is no weaker than the GSR...just have different shaft ratios and Final drive ratio.

Is there a way to calculate the v max with a GSR or LS tranny with a redline of 9k?

Honesly, I think you have been getting the wrong type of advice.

A LS transmission is great for high horsepower setups. A 4.40 final drive (like the one found in USDM/JDM GSR, USDM/JDM B16 and USDM and pre 98 JDM ITR transmissions) is entirely too short for a high horsepower transmission. You will not be able to go your wanted top speed with a 4.40 equipped vehicle. The LS transmission has a 4.266 final drive which is very good for high boost applications because it allows you to stay in boost for longer periods of time and allows you to use the most of your power. Also, your Quaife LSD for the LS transmission is not compatible with a GSR/ITR ring gear, you would have to get a 4.40 ring gear for a B16 transmission (the bolt patterns are different) and use it in the GSR tranny with your LS Quaife LSD.

for a "perfect" setup I would do the following:

LS transmission
ATS 1st and 2nd gear (first/second gear with longer ratios for better launches)
4.266 final drive ring gear (OEM works fine but I reccomend an aftermarket unit of higher quality for the horspower levels being used)
Quaife LSD
all new bearings for longevity

I will post up a link that could quite possibly help you answer many of your questions about what I just posted and give you reference for gear ratios and speeds given your tire diameter and redline.

here is a link to a gear chart calculator---
http://autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi

and here is a link to find out your tire dimensions to get a more accurate idea
http://www.discounttire.com/dt...h.jsp

TA-DA, all of your questions will soon be answered

say you have stock LS transmission ratios with 205/50/15's(23.07" overall diameter) on your car and a redline of 9000rpm......your top speed in fifth gear would be 202.8mph theoretically.....(that is if you have enough power to push your car through the wind that fast and having the correct equipment and tires to sustain that speed)

But i´m a little bit confused. I also got a B16A2 tranny and its exact the same final drive gear as the LS one.

no it is not.....ALL B16 transmissions have a 4.400 final drive ratio.

there is one gear chart floating around that says a 99 SI transmission has a 4.266 final drive ratio but that is INCORRECT.

final drive gears 64 teeht
countershafts 15 teeth

if you are at a question if anything actually exists with a B16a2 transmission (s40) ask GearSpeedEF9......his company is the EXCLUSIVE re-manufacturer for Honda of North America's transmissions.......that means that EVERY re-manufactured transmission that a Honda or Acura dealership uses comes from his company. A B16a2 is out of a 99-00 SI.....therefore it is a USDM tranny and he would know what it has

just food for thought

99-00 Si (S4C) come with a 4.40 final drive. This same final is also in the DOHC Vtec DelSol(Y21) as well.

I knew that you would chime in......

I think that you and the person that you posted a link to (link does not work) may have been scammed. Honda would not put such a long FD on an engine with soo little torque.
