Default Sleeved b20 or Sleeved and bored to 84mm b18b?

is it basically the same thing? or is there a difference. this is assuming i have same compression pistons as well. which would cost more? and if i plan to go vtec later on, i hear an ls/vtec is less reliable than a b20/vtec would it be the same case with the bored out ls?

You end up with the same end result. The b18b will probably be cheaper to buy than the b20.The ls/vtec isn't any more or less reliable than the b20/vtec.

They are, for the most part, the same thing. After all, the B20 is basically just a 'big LS'. There are, however, a couple of things to keep in mind. First of all, an LS is going to cost ALOT less than a B20. So if you are going to sleeve anyway, just go with the LS. The B20 is really only a better way to go if you just plan to run the motor basically stock, in which case a B20 will cost ALOT less than a sleeved LS. Secondly, the sleeved LS has the advantage of having a B18A/B18B block stamp. This is important if you live in a places like California, where you must deal with a visual smog inspection. And finally, the PCV system is somewhat different on the B20 block, necessitating the use of a B20/newer B18B valve cover. The LS has a PCV system more like a VTEC motor, making this easier to set up if you go VTEC.
