Default Shift Fork

I had just replaced my axels with Honda OEM ones, used some sea-foam for the tranny used as per companies instructions, and filled the tranny up with Castrol GTX 10w30. I was going up a grade about 30 mph and start to slow, downshifted and almost felt like a mis-shift. As I made my way from 3rd to second my shifter felt like it got caught in neutral.

After this I was stumped, tried every gear. Also, there was no metalic noise as I changed gear as if something snapped or broke. I know there is fluid, I drained it, perfectly full, still clean. But now upon inspection only 1/2/4 are the only gears I can change into. Yet nothing engages, I'm guessing the shift fork is toasted?

Anyone have any info on how to tell, or maybe a better diagram on my tranny than the helms'. 91 CRX Si 89 Si transmission. TIA for any replies. - Darrell

i had a similar problem... i was just driving normal and shifted to second and it jsut stayed there... then if i got the shifter out of second, my tranny stayed in second... i broke my shift fork... it didn't matter where my shifter was, i was in second forever...

And did you replace the fork and life continued? Or did you get a new tranny? Or are you still trapped in second? lol - Darrell

Yeah, just to verify I searched the Castrol site, and GTX is only available in MOTOR oil grades. Manual transmissions use a much thicker oil, usually something in the range of 75w90.

Sounds like you put motor oil in your tranny. ****.

Yeah, I've done this to more than 12 manual transmissions, never had any problem with any, aside from this one. All grinded before the GTX/Lucas stabillizer combo, all were fine after. So it cannot be that bad.

Yeah, I can only hope. The tranny is 85% percent out, once its out I'll crack it open and pray for the best. thx for the replies. - Darrell
