Default Decent system for under $700??

Do you guys think it's possible to build a "decent" system for under$700? If yes, what amp, sub, and speakers would you suggest?

it should be if you can find some good deals. My friend got 2 Audiobahn Dubs and a 1200 watt amp for like 300 or so.

what exactly do u need? just sub/amp/speakers and no cd player? if so, that is doable.

I am currently trying to build a system for a friend for $400.

Its very easy to build a system for under $700 i would suggest cmttrading.com or ebay to find good deals on amps, but go with respectable subs. I just bought a 600 watt audiobahn amp, 2 JL 12" subs and a box for $300, you just gotta find good deals

it's EXTREMELY easy to build a decent system for round $700...here we go:

All prices found from circuit city website

Head unit: Alpine CDA-9825 - $169.99
Speakers: Pioneer TSG-1640R - $49.99/pair
Pioneer TSA-6970R - $99.99/pair
4ch amp: Pioneer M-4000F - $149.99
Sub amp: MTX RT-202 - $129.99
Subwoofer: Alpine SWE1041 - $39.99
Sub box: Q-logic QLH-10S75 - $44.99

That equals out to about $685., and that's without any hook ups or special prices...$700 is definately a reasonable target for a decent starting system.

oh, and unless you're needing a real SPL system and have lots of money, don't bother getting more than, at max, 400 watts for your subs, you'll just waste money.

if you want a nice CHEAP Sub Box place to go, with good reliability and craftsmanship (ive gotten 2 boxes already..

SubsDotKom

http://stores.ebay.com/SubsDotKom

Don't let the Ebay part fool you, these guys make them near me. Ken Smith is the guy you can contact from the info on the pages (dont know if the Ebay email works at all, but the one he uses is listed), he responds quickly, several times a day, and is a hell of a nice guy. They do have boxes other than what is listed.. I just got a .75 cf 10 inch box to replace my 1.25 one... These things are solid.

You can find most single boxes under $20 there. not much is past the $30s range either..

Do not forget RCA cables and Amp Power cables... Expect up to $100 for a decent complete set (Ie..1 Power cable set, 2 RCAs, for Left/Right Front/Back.. Not including another RCA for sub, because you can probably share the other rignals for it.... The price is at least from stores you walk into.

I'm an anteater! (heh, my school has the friggn' Anteater as the mascott...walking **** )

Yea a system can be assembled for $700

Let's see here

- Headunit: Undecided, have to check around a bit...I hate budget headunit recommendations, gets me every time.

Component speakers:
-Resonant Engineering
-Alpine spx-177r
-Do It Yourself (DIY) set:
Mids: Dayton Reference
Tweeters: Seas, Max Fidelity, Dayton Reference (Reference tweets are new, haven't heard them yet), or if you can afford it, Hiquphon OW1

Notes: DIY will most likely yield best results, but will be more difficult to integrate, and will need to build/buy passive x-over if wanting to amplify each side with 1 channel. (Additional amps don't really fit into the budget anyway)

Sub + box:

- ID v3
- Adire shiva
- dayton titanic (hey, maybe a dayton themed system...it'd be cool cuz very few people would know what the hell it is, but they'd wonder why it sounds so much better than their garbage)

Dunno what to do for the box though...I've got a table saw and plenty of extra MDF (1" and 1/2"). Heh, if you had that, it might help I guess ebay isn't a bad idea at that price

Amplifier - Tough one for the budget, I'd guess a 4-channel would be most cost effective:

- Planet Audio TT4300
- soundstream van gogh maybe (vga 500.4 or 320.4) - I'm a bit iffy on these...
- Used amps: (used can be a great deal, I'm selling some amps, but I won't plug them here )

Good used (budget) series: US acoustics "F" series ONLY, kicker, autotek, PPI art series or just PPI, ESX Q (quantum series), clarion APX series, Monitor 1, JBL GTS or GTQ... There are many more, just naming a few.

Wiring: - knukonceptz, or whatever you can find cheap.

Sound insulation/deadening - Maybe see if you can get some used, or just secondskin spectrum v3 for $59 shipped (1 gallon might be good for this budget system)

Yea, it can be done...just have to make a few compromises here and there

It all depends where you look. Ebay has some of the best stuff for the cheapest price. But only buy from powersellers. I have a system worth approx. $2500 and i got it all for about $800.

-Panasonic 3-dot matrix reciever- $180 (MSRP $350)

-Audiobahn A800dt amp- $300 (MSRP $500)

-2 12" Audiobahn Ultra excursions- $300 (MSRP for both $1,180)

-and i built a custom plexi glass box myself. But you can find one for about $50-60

**If you visit my site- http://members.tripod.com/serious_stereo_sound/**

I have links in the NEWS/LINKS section that will take you to some site with vrey low prices. Give it a try and good LUCK.

P.S. Looking at some other peoples posts, never buy a sub thats only $34 you are wasting your time and money becuase it is crap.
