I have a 96 Honda Accord 4 cylinder 2.2L

First let me say that my car has issues. Recently the crank sensor broke. I took it to a mechanic. The mechanic felt that the sensor was broken because a couple of gears had worn and caused the pulley to rub up against the sensor. Getting to the point... The timing belt was replaced along with the crankshaft seal, crank sensor a gear, the timing gear and a belt. The car runs OK except as the engine passes
2000 rpm it makes a deep buzzing sound/vibration. I do not think it is the muffler against the body. If you hold the rpm at 1950 the sound is constant. It is more noticeable as the rpm decreases but it is noticeable in both directions. There also seems to be a vibration that I can feel in the steering wheel when the car is running above 2000 rpm. This vibration was not present before the repair.


Some time back I had the timing belt replaced by another mechanic and as I recall I had a similar problem. After an adjustment the problem was fixed.


Could anyone tell me what kind of adjustment would fix the problem or what might cause the problem.

your mechanic os full of crap your crank position sensor is in the distro....not near any pulleys.

i think...its a fact for 94 and 95 accordsbut they went to obd2 in 96 so im not sure......

he has a obd2 car so his car has a crankshaft fluctuation sensor (CKF) near the crankgear.

maybe thats also your problem, i dont know

 

There is a S/B about this buzzing noise, The Bulletin calls out the spring loaded part of the exhaust pipe flex connection should get new updated springs and bolts. The connection they are talking about is just behind the oil pan.

 

Can you please elaborate on that last post? How do I get this fixed, I've encountered the same issue.

 

Which issue??? The engine vibration from the counter balance shaft being out of time? LOL Or the exhaust buzz from the coupling needing new springs and bolts ?

Is the coupling between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter, or between the catalytic converter and the cat-back exhaust system?

 

yup. it is a problem from the factory. i never knew there was a bulletin on it though. another more expensive fix is to get a new catback exhaust.

 

I've got a new RS*R exhaust, and the buzz is still there.
