Default Need your help QUICK please

Well i was at a dealership looking at an 00 civic ex to purchase when i noticed something that has been bothering me. When we popped the hood to look at the engine, i noticed that the engine just said HONDA on it. No black cover or anything that said VTEC like i see all the other SOHC VTEC engines.... just a gray HONDA. I checked the block and it did have the code D16Y8 on it.... and on the side it said the same. Can anyone tell me if maybe there is something I am missing? I just want to make sure before i purchase the car. Your help would be much appreciated.

D16Y8's did not have VTEC on the valve cover. It sounds like it still has the SOHC VTEC, but if you want to be absolutely certain look for the VTEC solenoid on the back of the head.
