Default Temp needle wont pass C...suggestions other than thermostat please

Hi the title says it all really.
The needle wont pass C but also the car takes quite some time to warm up...alot more than the average car and even after 30min of driving, the air being blown in is barely warm. My thermstate was changed 4 months ago. What other things can cauz this and can i fix it myself???

Thanx

did you change it with a brand new OEM thermostat?
if you changed it to something non OEM, then that is the problem

one option is to block the radiator with a piece of cardboard, a lot of diesel truckers do it in the winter

don't block the whole radiator though

thermostat stuck open sounds like the problem, specially bein winter and all. make sure you're full on coolant too.

Start the car and let the car sit, don't drive it. Does the needle climb? If not, then you have a bad sender/gauge. If the needle climbs and the fans kick on at operating temperature, your thermostat is bad. Replace only with an OEM one + gasket.

I've seen thermostats be bad out of the box, so I always check them before installing them. An OEM one is $12.

ok well i got the thermostat changed today and you guys were right, the car was heating up right away. The needle went a bit passed 1/3. but it never went all the way to half way. The funny thing is we had the car running on idle for about 10 min and not once did the fan go on. I still have yet to notice it go on.

Is it not getting hot enough or is there something wrong with my fan that i did not previously notice because my thermostat was stuck in the open position?

The fan isn't supposed to run until it gets a little hotter than normal. You might have to wait until the temperatures get above freezing before that happens. Like what, maybe June in Quebec??
