Default K-Pro, VTEC Question

What is the best RPM to engage VTEC for a Turbo Application? I've heard 5200 but was wondering if this would be to low for the oil pressure?

I've heard the lower the better, to an extent. I've heard of people lowering it down to 3800 rpms. I think it says something about vtec engagement on boosted aplications on hondata.com. The reflash isn't good for boost though. Timing is too agressive.

the only times i've heard of taking it down to 3800 are for the toda all motor package...with boost i'd put it between 5200 and the stock 5800

Depends on how restrictive your exhaust is. Typical is 5200, but I have seen it as low as 4500 on a boosted RSX-S

Having vtec low just reduces traction even more.

It should be set mid around 5500.

I am sure Hondata just didn't feel like typing this...lol.

VTEC will be different depending on your setup. Many things can change the optimal engagement point. The best thing to do is do two dyno runs, one with VTEC set very high (6K or so) and one with it set very low (3500 or so). Overlay the graphs, and as long as you are fairly well tuned otherwise, the place where the two graphs cross is the optimal engagement point. You want to engage where the secondary lobe is making as much power as the primary lobe.

5200-5500 rpms is ideal for K engines

There is so much more to it than just the "engine." Headers can alter the best engagement point, cams have different engagement points, etc.
