did honda produce an ecu that was made specially for cali emissions. cuase my buddy has a manual pr4 ecu, obd1 but its throwing the egr code, 12. we can't figure it out, but we were thinking that maybe there are certain ecu's out there that are cali emission legal or something. anyone know

nope. no b18's ever had EGR's.

Wrong. The auto B18a's DID have EGR's

There are indeed two different emission classes on the ECU's. There is a Cali specific one and a 49 state emissions group.

0w3n3d! now i know
. now if he converts the ecu from auto -> man, will it solve the EGR code? you could also run a p74 or p75 LS ecu right?

i'm pretty sure too. REF's are supposed to only allow CA spec ECU's to be used to BAR a car

Yep. I learned about the different emissions groups when I reff'd my B17... and yes, they SHOULD only allow the CALI emissions ecu's. Seems to vary depending on the ref you speak to.

My knowledge of what I have learned says no... But I could be wrong. From what I learned so far regarding ecu chipping/conversions... it will solve the code for the "lock up control solenoid"... but I am not sure about the EGR code. It very well could also remove it. I would say try the conversion and find out. It can't hurt anything so long as your good with soldering.
