Default Irratic Idle

I did a search, but everything that came up was for a swapped engine. I drive a stock '88 Crx. Before today I never had an irratic idle, it normally idles at 800 rpm, but now it doesnt go lower than 1000rpm and goes up to 1600. It goes up and down between those rpm constantly. Things that changed today on my car are: 1) the battery died because i left my lights on, witch i boosted from a battery jumper pack. 2) I put just a little extra oil it (just above the maz line) I would have drained it but was in a hurry and didnt have a place to drain it.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

check the spark plug wires and make sure they are making contact with the plug. then check the TPS to make sure that its functioning properly :D.

I had the same problem. Is your check engine lt on? If it is, for me it was the idle speed sensor. I hope for your sake it isn;t because it is expensive. Although
I wasn;t on hondatech then. In the stores it is $300 and from a junk yard $200. So like I said i hope it isn't that.

not sure what motor is in your CRX but check the fast idle valve.

the fitv (fast idle thermal valve) i believe is just on b series motors which he shouldnt have , while this does cause irractic idle its usually just untill the engine is at operating temp .

check the IACV (idle air control valve) or the TPS.

The irratic idle only comes when the engine is up to operating temp. There is no CEL. I'm from Canada so its cold here, and when I start my car up the engine revs at about 2000rpm and slowly drops until it gets to op temp, then it starts to bob up and down between 1000 - 1600 rpm. It does this ecactly the same every time, like it goes up to exactly the same rpm (1600) and down to 1000rpm, and that never varys, it never goes higher or lower than that.

erratic idle only caused by either EACV not working correctly or low coolant level
