CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
My 98 Accord's check engine light just came on. The car has roughly 90k miles. I used a hand held tester to test the OBD-II and I received a P1491 code stating EGR valve lift sensor trouble code. Are these tester's reliable? How offen does the EGR valve go out? The dealer is stating that the EGR valve cost $200.00. Is this about right for the Valve? please let me know. Thanks for your help.
that happened to a buddy of mine. unbolt yours, clean it out and try it, his had the same code and it was just all clogged up. if that doesnt work i have one from my f23 with 38k miles if you want...
CH954,
What is a f23? I did unbolt the ERG valve and the valve didn't look clogged up. What should I clean in the valve? How much do you want for your valve?
Thanks.

It's pretty common. Honda has a warranty extension on the EGR systems good for 80000 miles because of the problems.
