knocking noise when i make a right turn.....help
ok, so i'm driving home from work, i have a 93' DA, just cruising along and all of a sudden i go to make a right hand turn, and all i hear is grinding. my initial reaction is, torn cv boot. i get home look under the driver's side wheel, but no tears, no leaks no anything. does anybody have any suggestions, before i take it down to the dealer?
I have ran into this problem with my ED's alot, it was caused my torn or bad bushings, check all front ones, and the steering rack bushings.
Your CV boot doesn't have to be torn or leaking for the CV joint to be bad. It can simply just fail from its own internal failure. Trust me, the last one I broke, looked fine from the outside but sure as hell didn't go anywhere when shifted
Figured it out quick though when I jacked the car up and spun the wheel but the axle didn't spin, lol. Anyway, it's just more common to see the joint go bad bc of a torn boot due to debris and such getting inside and all the grease flying out, causing the joint to go bad (friction, etc). One of the easiest ways to check for a bad CV joint/axle is go to a parking lot and turn slowly, etc. If it's clicking around, then most likely you gots yourself a bad CV joint
