Default Manual steering has a personality?

My 91' civic dx has manual steering and i've noticed that it seems like it's veriable. Sometimes it steers with a finger or two, and other times it's full hand over hand action.

Has anyone else experianced this? Is it somthing I could possibally fix? I've never worked on steering before.

Well the faster you go the easier it is to turn the wheel, does it get hard to turn when you are at speed or only when going slow?

I thought about this after I posted, I should have clairified, speed doesn't make a difference in this case, when the steering is cooperating, when I'm not moving, it feels like I have power steering, it move's very smoothly and so easily I can turn lock to lock with a couple fingers. but when it's being a bitch its like when I masterbate, two hands or nothing's going to happen

any ideas? bacuse I would like to make it so it'll turn easily all the time.

TYIA joe.

The surface you are on is also a factor, wet road=easier to turn.

Also check your tire pressure.

Low tire pressure=a beyatch to turn the steering wheel.

someone told me it could be a bearing in my steering column.. how true could this be? if so, fuckit, the next owner can deal with it. steering colums are a bitch to replace.

What kind of tires do you have? Size/make? My old Federal super cheapies were a biatch to turn when at a stop, but my Falken Azenis almost feel like power assisted steering. - Darrell
