Default hifonics vs. JL amp

i am going to go with ONE IDmax sub. should i get this Hifonics Brutus amp to power it or would putting out another hundred dollars to get a JL 500/1 amp be better? isn't the price difference ridiculous..? is it because the brutus doesn't put out the claimed wattage? or is it because the JL amp puts out A LOT more than claimed??? why is the JL amp so expensive?!? i've always wanted a JL amp until i saw hifonics price tag.. if i go with hifonics which model hifonics would be better for this sub; this HIFONICS ZEUS or this HIFONICS BRUTUS?

ever since jl has hit the market, they have always under rated their products! i was running 3 12" w6ae's(300watts each) with 3 250/1's! i had my 250/1's tested and they were pushing 4XX watts. as far as quality, you WILL get your moneys worth out of the JL!

I have heard good things about the hifonics stuff, and am running one of their 5 channel ams in my gmc jimmy. I have had no problems what so ever.....so take that for what it is worth.

JL makes quality stuff though, and you probably wouldn't be dissapointed with either brand. I have heard the JL's put out the same wattage through multiple resistances, so that may be the difference. The Hifonics amps produce a good bit of power at lower resistance, where the JL's will be consistant. May depend on how you are going to run the amp.

Please someone correct me if I am wrong about the JL amps, no expereince with those personally.

Get the Brutus and keep the gain low. The abundance of power will help to keep the music cleaner.

edit:

However, if you do go with the JL I have a 300/2 and 300/4 for sale.

Hifonics amps are also quite under-rated. Either one will be sufficient to power your sub. Even though I am a big JL fan, you can save the money and use that $100 somewhere else.
