Default Attn:Those who pay for oil changes

Not to make anyone paranoid, but just a reminder that if you care about your car, keep on top of what goes into it.

Until recently, my Honda dealer was using the smaller Honda oil filters on pretty much all oil changes. You might remember, these replaced the bigger oil filters as the "standard" Honda filter for 88+ up PGM-FI engines back in '04. (P/N 15400-PLM-A02, usually made by FRAM or Honeywell)

American Honda visited our dealership and we were informed we were to to be using nothing but the bigger style oil filters on S2000s. When asked why, they had no explanation(thanks, corporate).P/N for these is 15400-PCX-004, made by Toyo-Roki of Japan.

On top of that, it has been an ongoing battle between parts and service not stocking 10W30 Honda oil bottles(Mobil). I'm assuming all the other techs are just putting in what comes out of our bulk oil delivery system which is 5W30 oil. Every S2000 oil change I've done, I've had to force parts to order some 10W30 Mobil oil from a parts shop. The first time they ordered some 10W30, it was very cheap "Pronto" brand which then had to be returned.

It's unfortunate that a Honda dealer which is supposed to know about the vehicle the most, cannot even get the right parts. It's a money game at most places, so if you really want to protect yourself ask for the empty oil bottles/oil filter packaging.

As far as I've seen, the smaller oil filters are ok for the other cars, but if your engine says to use 10W30(B16s,etc), watch out too.

It depends on the year of the B16a. 94-97 Del Sols are recommended to use 10W30. You can use either. Just make sure if you get your oil done somewhere, they're putting in what you want put in.

Those parts and service reps can be dicks sometimes. Weve been using the big filters, but use non honda 10w30. The only Honda brand engine oil we stock is 0w20 for the Insights.
