*HELP* My Brake Lights Are Stuck On!! *HELP*
So it's winter time here. I'm driving my winter beater right now. It's an 87 Honda CRX Si. I was driving home last night, drifting around turns, etc.
Anyways, when I was going in the house, I noticed the brake lights were stuck on. The brakes arn't stuck on, and all wheels spin freely.
So, I was tired, and just unhooked the battery so I could go to bed w/ out my battery being dead last night.
This morning, hooked up the battery, and the brake lights are still on!!
I guess something got froze up, or stuck. I know there is alot of times a brake light switch behind the brake pedal, however I can't find one...or maybe I don't know what I'm looking for.
I was also told sometimes it can be around the master cylinder.
Anyone know where the brake light switch is???
Btw, if I pull the brake lights fuse out, the lights go out. So something must be stuck somewhere...some kind of switch to activate the lights.
Thanks,
Jeremy

You're on the right track. Check out your brake light switch. On your car, look at the top part of the brake pedal at the hinge point. The brake switch is a cylindrical device about 3-4 inches long with a 2-pin connector plugged into it. It's attached to your pedal by a locknut. The casing is usually white/cream in color.
One of 2 things could be happening. Either your brake pedal play needs adjustment and this is causing the brake lights to be on all the time, OR you need a new brake light switch.
If you have an ohmmeter, you can perform a continuity check between the 2 terminals on the switch. With the switch plunger pressed in, you shouldn't get any continuity. With the switch plunger released, there should be continuity. If you don't get any continuity with the switch plunger released, then the switch needs replacement. And if you replace the brake light switch, the brake pedal play needs to be adjusted as well to ensure that when you're not pressing on the brakes, that the brake lights are off.
The part number for switch in your CRX is 35350-SE0-A03 and costs about $16 from a Honda dealer.
Good luck!

Hmm, this isn't a Honda...but...it's a photo of a switch.
I noticed earlier on mine, that there is a mount that the break pedal comes and rest against. However, it's not touching it, and the clutch and gas pedal does.
Perhaps the little button is there and just pushed and froze in? That's why the brake pedal doesn't hit the stopper??
You can see the 2 little things that look like it could be a switch here.

Thanks, but you really think it's bad? Being so cold, couldn't something have froze?
I'm confursed about what you are calling the switch. I saw the plunger type thing that goes through the fire wall, is that it??

Maybe the switch has come loose from it's bracket & it's dangling by the wire somewhere under there?? In that case, the pedal isn't pushing the button, so the switch thinks you're pressing on the pedal.
I went out on my lunch break and looked at the car. I see the switch. Infact, I see the problem. The switch is fine. However, there is this little piece that goes onto the pedal that presses the switch whent he break isn't in use. The piece is broke and it's on the floor mat.
I looked at the clutch, and it has the same kind of piece, but intact. The button on for the brake switch is free and easily pressing in and out.
I'll go out to the junk CRX Si I got for parts, and see about taking that off today. If it's broke, I'll rig something up to hit that damn button.
Thanks.
