? on b-series engines can anyone help

how can you tell what year they where made. what do i look for is there a code or number on the block or something.

There should always be a VIN# on the block I think I suppose you could do a car fax on it or something like that.

On the head...left side above the exhaust manifold....the year is stamped.

i'm buying a 99'us spec for cheap and i just want to make sure it's the right one cause the guy has two and i don't want the wrong one. thanks for the info
