Streetability of Drag Radials?
I'm wondering if it's safe to run drag radials such as Nitto 555r's for everyday driving, 3 seasons a year. I'm not wondering about how they work on snow or ice, but how do they work with rain? Can you use them for long drives or do they heat up too much? I'm lookin for something with more traction than Azenis, though they do perform very well.
their fine in the rain until they get below half tread and then they scared me shitless on the interstate in the rain, couldnt go over 45mph without hydroplaning,
btw 555r's are the **** and i got 6k miles on mine and they are at 50% tread

i have 225/50/15 BFG drag radials on my car, there pretty much the same as feriovtec94 said about his nittos, once the tread wheres down they get a little tough to handle at highway speeds in the rain. the longest trip i took with mine was 1.5 hours one way, raced, then the same trip home, didnt have any problems with over heating just by driveing. i have 3500 miles on them so far and i might get 500 more out of them but i highly doubt it, but for a zero treadware tire they lasted longer than i thought they would. im getting consistant 1.96-1.98 60' times with these tires with 12psi of air in them.

Was this directed to me? My Azenis wore fine... took about 12 or 15k miles.

Typical tires that come with a normal car last like 50k-- aznenis with their low treadware rating ware out pretty quick-- I just hate buying tires, it's irritating. What I was getting at is the drag radials will wear out faster than the azenis did. I don't know how often you're trying to buy tires, but it's something you might want to consider-- wasn't trying to be rude or anything
I have absolutely no experience with either, but from knowledge i have gathered, the BFG's tend to yield better 60' times, but they also do worse in the rain, and wear quicker than the nt555r's.
IMO only, it seems that the 555rs are a llittle more streetable, but if you want the best traction for a street radial that the bfg's are probably the way to go.
But if anyone with experience with the 555r's can chime it i would appreciate it.
For ex. I have heard of several cars hitting 1.9X 60 footers with the bfg's, but havent seen any 1.X anything with the nittos, but again that doesnt necessarily mean they are worse, some people are just exceptional drivers! (myself not included)

i was able to get consistent 2.00's 60fts with the nittos and my car weighs almost 2400lbs, if the car was lighter like a hb then 1.9s would be no problem, actually several of my friends with hb's and itr motors have no problem getting 1.9s with 555r's, their best was a 1.91
hope that helps

if you are looking for maximum traction i would go with the BFG
if you are looking for a little more mileage out of the tire i would go with the NITTO
BFG's usually last around 4K or less, but they are a very nice tire.

I'm sure someone's gotten 1.9X's out of 555r's b/c some have gotten 2.0X out of Azenis. I know the BFG's grip better than the Nittos, but only getting 4k miles is a bit too few for me. How many miles have you guys gotten out of the 555r's?
