My new VTEC head w/ pics!
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the forums and I need a little help with my swap attempt. I just bought this y8 head and intake manifold from a guy and he said it was "complete", all I need to swap it onto my y7 block.
After researching a little bit, I'm noticing more and more things I need to swap it. I already bought a 2000 p2p ecu and wire harness too.
What else would you guys recommend me getting before the install? And what can I reuse from my old head to install this one? Thanks a lot for your help guys.
Whats this?

I know I need a fuel pressure regulator.

Pretty clean? I don't know.....

Oh and here's my new 00 civic hatch......so pretty......only equipped w/ omnipowers right now.

Get a new headgasket, new intake manifold gasket, and I do believe whats missing from the back of the intake manifold is called an IACV, idle air control valve? Could be wrong, but pretty sure.
Head looks really good, and looks like the MAP sensor might be missing too, its supposed to be on the top of the throttle body I believe.

Thanks yo. I was already planning on getting all the new gaskets and such. I also read something about needing a knock sensor because y7's don't have one? Any ideas on what thats all about?

Really? I figured that much cuz the manifolds are so different. Tonight I'm going to take my y7 apart a little to see was is interchangeable. I'm hoping that this will be a clean swap becuase I'm planning on swapping the wiring harnesses too.

Thanks idol4life, yeah trying not to give in to the rice at every stoplight trying to race me.
I'm gonna keep it as clean as possible and another motto of mine is "function over form."
Well thats it for my "5 posts per 24 hours," damn trial user status
Any other help would be much appreciated, thanks for all the compliments!

What you are missing is the IACV.
y7 and y8 auto uses a "3 wire" IACV on the throttle body. y8 manual (b series and obd1) uses a "2 wire" IACV on the intake manifold. They are not interchangable phyiscally and electrically. As an ECU made for 2 wire IACV cannot control 3 wire IACV and vice versa.

you have a 96-98 manual Y8 manifold...and head.
if you want to get it going without the Y8 head just use your Y7 throttlebody (3-wire iacv mounted on TB) and plug the holes in the back of the manifold were the manual Y8 iacv was (or buy an auto Y8 manifold with no holes).
but since your doing the head swap also...that makes things more difficult.
if you are using a manual Y8 ecu, you will need to rewire the ecu for the 2-wire iacv and you will have to get a 2-wire iacv. *question* also does the 99-00 Y8 ecu control the air injection that comes on the 99-00 Y8 manifolds? if not then any manual Y8 ecu should work, otherwise you will need a 96-98 manual ecu.
otherwise go ghetto style, if possible, just run a switch for vtec with a fuel controller and just use your original Y7 TB.
look here for more info on the auto/manual and 96-98/99-00 differences

how do you know its a 96-98 manifold and head? How can you tell? Is that bad if I'm putting it on a 00 y7 block? More complicated?
Like I said, I have a manual y8 ecu and harness and I'm gonna buy a 2 wire IACV so it should plug right in right? I'm pretty sure that since I have a y8 harness that I don't really need to rewire anything except running this harness instead of the y7 harness. Thats why I bought it.

well at least the manifold is from a 96-98...no air injection

im not positive cause ive never owned anything newer than a 91, but i doubt that it is as easy as plugging in the engine harness and going. you may have to re-pin some of the harness at the ecu and add wires for vtec and such...just take good notes and it shouldnt be too hard...just time consuming. helms is your friend for this, figure it all out on paper before you start. i think redpepperracing.com has a online helms for ek's

Ok, ok, I got this crap straight.....
I read the page about the 99-00 intake manifold having air injection...... BUT I seem to have bought a y8 head and intake manifold from a 96-98 that doesn't have air injection ..... SOOOOO I can disregard that part ........BUT my y8 wire harness and ecu are from a 00 y8 engine so it's gonna be looking for air injection that i don't have? That should work right?
Somebody please tell me if my 00 y8 ecu and harness will work with the 96-98 y8 IM and head? I hope I don't have to buy another ecu........
oh and i already have a helms manual
