I just got done auto crossing my car and after i did it, i hear my car making like a clicking noise when i make sharp turns. Im almost positive its my CV joints. My question is, how soon do i need to change this and is it going to effect any other part in the mean time

Constant Velocity joint? Take your front wheel off and look for blackish-green goo everywhere. The clicking does sound like the boot blew. You'll have to replace the whole half shaft... or shafts if both are blown. It shouldn't effect anything really. I've heard of shafts locking up because there is no more grease in the boots during a sharp turn ... and after all the grease has removed. Dunno if it's possible or not.

My dad's rodeo's front outer cv boots have both blown about 50 thousand miles ago, and it's been fine. But we rarely ever use fourwheel drive anyways, so don't assume you're front wheel drive vehicle will be as well.

k well i hear it effects you when you drag and run the 1/4 mile but i do more of AutoX'ing more than anything else and it seemed to run normal even when it would click before i did my run. i ran it when i heard the clicking bc someone told me that his has been doing that for like a few months but still hasnt done anything

i guess what im trying to say is, does it effect me when im autoX'ing or is what i heard bs?

 

if your boot is busted, then you should replace it. cause one it busted then dirt, sand, water and who know what got in there already. you could replace the boot but who would want to do that. cause autoparts store sell axel with life time warranty. it's faster to replace the axel the replacing the boot. imo

 

Hmmm the way the redneck mechanic that works on my car explained it to me was that after a certain amount of time the cv joing will wear out. "Well what apeers to hav hapended is that yer cv joirnt has gon bad. What happens is yer joirnt'll go bad and the juice'll ooze out"


I let mine go for a few months and I had to replace the whole damn axle and everything. Also it is dangerous to drive with it like that, after awhile you will hit a bump and your wheel will hop. That isn't so bad but when going around a curve and your wheel hops your car will slide into the other lane. So get that fixed. it really isn't that expensive.

 

I work at NTB and i just wrote an estimate for a dodge caravan CV Shaft replacement. Came up to around 250-300 bucks. So i'm guessing yours would be around the same.
