Default car has gone haywire after o2 simulator install! need help!

yesterday i installed a header and o2 simulator. the o2 sim was a 5-wire ziptech from kteller.com that had me splice into power, ground, tps, o2 sensor, rpm. after i installed them, everything was fine, no problem, no cel's.

few hours later, i start my car and i immediately get a CEL, and my speedometer doesn't work. after about 30 min of driving, my ABS light also comes on, my clusters get real dim, and my head unit shuts off. the codes i'm getting are CEL 20, and CEL 65.

20 = electrical load detector
65 = secondary o2 sensor heater

now i have no idea why i'm getting these. i checked, checked, and rechecked the wiring of the o2 sim, it is exactly the way the diagram says, no wires exposed, all solders are good. my car runs like ****, and will only run for a few minutes before dying. it has drained 2 batteries like my alternator isn't even working. i've checked the alternator/speed sensor fuse, it's fine.

please help!!

I had the exact same thing happen to me... Check your under dash fuse panel and there should be a fuse in the middle row that is the Alternator SP sensor fuse... This fuse is most likely blown... Replace the fuse and check your wiring... This happens when a wires from the O2 ground out on something metal, like your exhaust, heat shields, etc...

Double check that no wires whatsoever are touching anything , replace the fuse, and you should be good to go...

the fuse isn't blown, i checked it last night. i replaced it anyway, still get the same problem and codes.

only wires i've messed with were the 5 wires that the o2 simulator tapped into, those are all covered in electrical tape so they aren't grounding out on anything.

Just because they are all covered with electrical tape, doesn't mean they aren't touching each other underneath the tape... Remove the tape and make sure all the wires are covered accordingly, and that there is no wire showing at all... I've had this problem twice, and two of my friends have had it as well... It's worked everytime I had to deal with it...

ok well my exhaust dropped and the white wire on the o2 sensor was rubbing on the heatshield of the cat. this caused the shielding to come off exposing the wire. do you think that caused a short? i dunno what the white wire is.

i wrapped all the wires in electrical tape and moved the exhaust over, i reset the ecu and still have these codes! i also checked the wiring on the o2 simulator for like the millionth time, everything is fine.

So there was a wire exposed, and you covered it..? Re-check your underdash fuse panel and make sure you pulled the right fuse... I believe it's a 7.5A... Alternator SP Sensor...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 4U2NV &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">So there was a wire exposed, and you covered it..? checked it. if it's fuse 19, the 5th fuse in the middle row, then it's good. (the alternator/speed sensor fuse).

ok ok ok...

i was checking the wrong fuse, i'm an idiot. anyway i found the right fuse, it was indeed blown. i replaced it. i reset the ecu, turned the key to the on position, immediately got the two exact same codes again. i checked the fuse again, it was fine...didn't blow.

so wtf does this mean? how in the ever loving christ do i get rid of these things?!

I had a similar problem when i installed my O2 sim. But i didnt have serious electrical problems like my interior lights dimming or whatever, my CEL would keep coming on despite checking the connections and the setup procedures numerous times. Eventually i took my car back to where i had purchased the sim, and got the owner to look at the install. In my particular case my sim was hooked up to the right wires from teh ecu, but my wires from my harness feeding to my ecu were incorrectly installed. I guess whoever did the swap in my car for the previous owner was a peanut. I dont know if this helps in anyway, but maybe if you have done a swap you could check this out.
