Default 6th generation Accord Automatics

I am thinking about buying a 6th gen Accord and may have to get an automatic. Any known major problems with these ? I'm not real impressed with the auto in our 6th gen Civic....are they the same ?
Thx

Use the search button. Not 2 days ago there was a thread about transmissions and about half of hte pepole with 98-up accords had transmission problems.

There are also links to the warranty info in some of these threads. just search accord transmission, both recent and archived.

There are 2 ways to view it - either stay away from the 6th gen automatics entirely, or make sure you buy a 2000 or 2001 with low mileage, so your trans will be covered by the extended warranty to 100k miles. I bought a 2000 EX last month with 64k miles, took it to Honda for a full checkup, and drove out with a new (rebuilt) transmission for free. Seems like a pretty good deal to me....and I have another 3 yrs/36k minimum warranty on the replacement trans.

On the other hand, I bought a 2000 LX with 98k miles, had the trans examined on 3 separate oil change visits, and there is no sign of any problems with it.

There's your 50% failure rate...

Lucky ! I hear-tell a remanufactured auto-trans plus install would be $2000 +

I bought a 2001 Accord with 46k and within a month.....it started slipping so I took it to Honda and they researched the VIN and they said that the transmission was changed before. But all I needed was a Linear Solenoid and they replaced that and now it's been running fine. I travel a lot so I've already put 30k on it since that and it's still going smooth. But i'm now in the 80k range. The warranty ends at 100k. What should I do? Should I get rid of it now or hold onto it? I love the car but I don't want to be stuck with maintenance problems. The way I drive, the 100k will be here real soon. I changed the fluids at honda at 64k. I think I'm gonna do it again next week. Can I get some advice?

I got a 00 accord lx, been over a year now bought it from a local honda dealer. the tranny was slipping when I got it. I took it back and they checked up on it and told me that there was a recall on all 00' accord's with auto trannies, at least that's what they told me. I had the warranty so the put in a brand new tranny for me. To this day since the new install no problems at all.

The 6th gen accords, 98-02 preludes and CRV's have tranny problems from what ive read. The tranny has a tendency to slip which has a potential for disaster (ie: on the freeway). It can even slip when the car is stopped and is still in gear, even in neutral (just read a small article in the LA Times about it). the lesson here is to ALWAYS use the parking brake just in case
